CCDA President's Message: November 2009
President's Message: November 2009
Maureen White , CCDA President, 2009-2010
Dear CCDA members and Career Colleagues,
CCDA celebrates California Counseling Licensure. Congratulations to Dean Porter and all our counseling and career colleagues who participated in lobbying, writing letters, researching, raising funds, and just being with the decade-long process. For more details and updates on licensure for California's career counselors, visit www.ccdaweb.org.
What better time and place to celebrate CCDA's successful licensing adventure than at this year's CCDA conference "Sustainable Careers," which focuses on many of the issues we career professionals are dealing with ourselves, as well as supporting others in their career and life transitions. Saturday, November 7 at Stanford University is a perfect place and time to visit with your colleagues and participate in workshops that highlight the Green Economy. Not only will you get valuable updates on what's really happening with emerging careers; you will find new ways to support your clients, nurture your lifestyle, and update your career skills. NCDA is providing CEUs and registration. See conference flyer and details at http://www.ccdaweb.org/events.asp. The CCDA conference project managers include veteran ICDC Chairs Mary Robins, Carrie McKnight and JoAnn Tennyson, along with Kristin Conner, Career Center, Stanford University and David Petrovay, Ph.d., Career Consultant and Educator. What a great team!
As of October 26 we have 70 participants. If you are not certain about your membership status, and you have been a CCDA member within the last 2 years, then we welcome you to register for the member rate - a very low $40! In this year of transition, CCDA has proposed to CCA lowering dues and our board is dealing with other association management issues.
Carpool, share a room, stay near Stanford University, or just come for the day. It is just not the same without you! At the conference, CCDA will host its annual membership meeting. The CCDA Board will present current projects, including our support for the NCDA 2010 Conference in San Francisco, updates with CCA (California Counseling Association) affiliation, budget and new possibilities and partnerships for CCDA. This is a time to ask questions, propose projects and find reasons to get more involved with CCDA programs that support you.
We are upgrading the CCDA website. If you are new to CCDA or renewing your membership and interest, this is a good time to read historical and archived articles, review bylaws, and locate regional chapters: www.ccdaweb.org.
I hope this letter finds you, and all those you care about and care for, compassionately navigating this final quarter of 2009, which culminates two years of a recession that has challenged and changed many lives, careers, professions, industries, organizations, communities and countries. More than ever, this is a time career professionals are most needed and valued. I am proud to serve with your CCDA leadership team in supporting you and the sustainability of our profession.
Looking forward to talking with you at the conference at Stanford University, Saturday, November 7.
